Title: Battery light ON Post by ren on Jan 14th, 2005, 10:16pm Hi All this is probably the same problem that Madenpold is haveing as it is a different engine i will start a new post mine is the 2.9 24valve cosworth which as a different alternator i believe And yes i have the battery cover fitted now my prob started last year with the dancing needles so in Nov i changed the battery when i was at the Midands meet beginning of jan my onboard reading was only 11.4 even with engine on, so poss a faulty alternator, located one out of a scrappy, took it to a local rotating auto electric cmpny who said it works ok,charges £4.00 to test so this evening fitted it,now when ever the revs go above 1000 the battery light comes on and its still only showing 11.4 on the onboard comp. what else can i now change Ren |

Title: Re: Battery light ON Post by Baz on Jan 14th, 2005, 10:22pm Ren, could it be a slipping belt? If the speed increases too much, the belt could be slipping and not turning the alternator Just a thought, I've had this on a few previous cars so might be worth checking the belt tensioners Baz |

Title: Re: Battery light ON Post by Snoopy on Jan 15th, 2005, 8:09am The belt are auto tensioned on the scorpio on all models but I would suspect the alternator... if the light comes on with revs suggests a dogey diode in the rectifier but I may be wrong... thats where I would be looking first....Also check the connections to the alternator and the battery earth.... |

Title: Re: Battery light ON Post by bazw on Jan 15th, 2005, 12:30pm hi ren if your new to you alt checked out ok then i would start going to each earth point and clean them (battery, engine strap and alternator conections so on ) as it sounds like resistance due to corrosion in the charging circut ;) |

Title: Re: Battery light ON Post by ren on Jan 15th, 2005, 6:14pm Thanks On checking the connections on the Alternator haveing them taken off and put back on it seems this may have been the problem, instrument panel now correct, battery light on when key turned, off when engine started, 13.5 showing onboard comp, this to be expected as battery not fully charged at time, only useing it for checking each time after doing something. Thanks again Ren |
