Title: Remote Central Locking
Post by LiverpaulH on Jan 17th, 2005, 1:05pm
Not really a problem, however, I am hoping someone may be able to offer some advice.

I only have one key with my 1995 M Ultima 2.5td Estate and no remote fob. My question is, would the car originally have been supplied with a remote fob, and if so if I can source one, can it be programmed to work with my car.

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

In a short answer YES.. you can buy a new remote from Ford at a cost of about £80 or try for a second hand one on Ebay or similar.....how to programme is on the main site  you do NOT need the red master Key to do it.... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/remote.htm

Cheers again Snoopy, it's a good job I don't need the red key as I haven't got it!!

Will check out ebay and if not may consider a trip to the local ford dealer.

Cheers

sorry to say. But I fear sooner or later you will run into troubles. I bought a Fiesta last year for my daughter, and also got only one key - and it was not the red one! The key got weird, and  to get a new one, which was capable to start the motor I had to pay for one WDS reading, one red key and one black key. Believe me, not a cheap action. So try in any case to obtain the red key from the previous owner!

Heh Paul ( LiverpaulH)  Try here for a cheaper solution to your Key problems.. I used one of the local guys to me (Ellesmere Port) and charged me £60 for 1 Red key (Master) an one new one great service and he came to the house to do it......
Certainly cheaper than FMD  IMHO..

Hi, just a thought, I seem to recalll from somewhere that very early 95 models did not have pats.  I have an early model and I don't have a red key however the keys that I do have do not have any obvious devices that are used by the pats system so i'm hoping that I'm right and I don't have pats in my car.
Regards John.

Hi. On a previous ford car i cable tied the only key to the ignition barrel inside the shroud and got two ordinary keys cut for a few quid. Not so secure but nobody new so i didnt have a problem

Hi, Just remembered where I heard about early 95 2.5TD not having pats.  When I bought my car it needed a new engine.  I bought a brand new engine with all the ancilleries fitted and arranged for it to be fitted when the garage fitted the engine they couldn't get it to start.  After talking to ford they found that the new fuel pump was to blame as it had a lot more wiring to it than my original pump so the removed the new pump and fitted my old pump the car started ok.  The garage told me that my car was one of the very early models that didn't have any pats and that the extra wiring to the electronic module on the fuel pump was required for it to work.  When I brought the car back for its 1000 mile service the garage had found out that they could have swapped the electronic module over on the pumps and I could have used the new pump but as the car was running ok it wasn't necessary.

I don't know wether this was a story to cover up a weeks delay in getting the car back but to me it sounded plausable considering that the fuel pump I took back was undoubtedly brand new.

Regards John

An update for you all.

Looks like John (VMan) was right :)...my 2.5td 1995 does not have the Pats system (or runs without a pats key ;D!).

At least that worry is out of the way, now a further question for the wealth of knowledge out there, as I do not have the Pats system will my car support the use of a remote?

Cheers

Paul,

a remote should still work - as far as I know the remote locking system and PATS are separate.

Should do as ALL the scorpio range did originally come with remote central locking... Why not meet someone and 'borrow' the remote and see... well worth a try.... and if it works then get one, there are plenty about out there...I am sure those that monitor that other site will tell you... (ebay)

Thanks again
See some of you Sunday

hmm...would a lowly executive have been fitted with rcl? There was no remote with it and no red key either, just the main key and an entry only key. Was owned by ford for 100000miles and there's all the paperwork, services, repair items etc so i didn't question the no red key aspect. any helps?  :)

Yep, It's that easy :P

Borrow or meet up with someone that has one to check, but I'm pretty sure it should work, everyone I've heard of, that tried, found it works 8)

What I find quite amusing is that the exec can be considered lowly! While it's not kitted out with the toys of the Ultima, compared to most other stuff from 1995 its loaded :D

All the scorps from the outset had RCL so it is there...
Program a remote and I can categorically say that it will work.. ;D

Just to let you know, Trevor (Wumpster) tried his remote on my motor last weekend and low and behold yes it does work ;D, so I'm a chasing a couple (one  for me, one for the missus) as we speak.

Interestingly Trevor said that I have the Pats light on the top of the dash, hmmmm, wonder where the key has been taped to. ::)

Cheers
