Title: Great start to my day.....

Went to buy a screw for a bedroom unit this morning and ended up doing this to my cossie, what i would like to know is, is this an original bumper as it has no padding inside it and would not have broken so badly if it was more solid. Other Fords (Escorts, Mondeos etc) I have had all had foam filled bumpers which absorb lighter knocks?

Nick,

Yes I'm afraid that is an original bumper. There is no foam in either bumper onm the Scorpio, certainly not the later models anyway. I fitted rear park sensors to my previous S reg and the rear bumpers were hollow too.

What did you hit?

An elephant by the looks of it !!!

bad news that mate and very disheartening to happen to yopu - i think most of us have been there as well !!

I wrote off £5 grands worth of GSXR750 on a track day (no insurance on them)...

I drove into a 12" high tree stump on a police station car park in my old capri and put all the front spoiler/bottom panel etc in - major damage.

but the worst ???  Bought a brand new superbike.. it had 2 miles on the clock and not a spec of dirt on it.. beautiful.  then wewnt through a major pothole in the road and caked it in dirty water !!!  very very upset.

No it wasnt quite an elephant it was an MG ZS thingy - a taxi driver had pulled away from the roundabout then stopped abrubtly and I was too busy listening to the sweet sounds of my 24v accelerating and not concentrating and rear ended him at about 3 mph - thats why I cant believe the damage it caused, his bumper was full of foam I suppose. Thanks for checking baz - its good to know what you get for about £300 from Ford!

Thanks andy but as the other guy will be claiming off me for his dented bumper I might as well get mine done through the insurance as I need a new grille as well - my xs is £200 and they will send someone over tomorrow to take it away.
