Title: Airbag Warning Light
Post by peterd on Jan 31st, 2005, 4:53pm
Hi Folks,

Hope you can help me, again.

1998 2.3 Ghia Estate. Keep on getting the warning light flashing (x5). Have stripped the Clock Spring a number of times, but can find nothing wrong!!!

The light can stop flashing for a few days and then starts again.

Any suggestions, as it's driving me mad.

??? ??? ??? ???

I'm having an airbag problem too - open circuit/loose connection somewhere is making the light flash a bit sometimes, but in a totally random manner.  Worse on bumpy roads.

I tried undoing the airbag from behind the wheel, but the only screws in the back of the steering wheel I saw were four anti tamper tri star screws.  They all disintegrated one the first twist.

Exactly where am I looking for these torx screws.  Are they just on the rear face of the steering wheel, and are they any caps over them?

Hi Robbie,

If you look carefully behind the wheel, you will see two small holes in the wheel. This is where you will find the small torax screws. It helps if you take off the indicator, etc., stalks plastic surrounds. These are held on with phillip screws.

You should then be able to insert a torax screw driver and remove the airbag.

Hope this helps.
