Title: Boot open warning
Post by Chad66 on Feb 1st, 2005, 12:07pm
Hi all,

I wonder if anyone has any ideas about this one.

The 'boot open' warning light on the dash stays on all the time. Even when the boot is definately closed and even with the engine running so you can't open it without the key anyway.

I'd have thought it will be a sensor fault, but where is the sensor?...any clues gratefully received.

The sensor is incorporated into the boot lock mechanism.
I had the same trouble, just  remove  the  boot lid trim ,  and  give  the  unit a  spray with WD 40 ,  and  check that   the  rods and  links and the  micro-switch  are  moving freely , press the boot lid button to see that the lock/unlock  solenoid/motor  is  operating  correctly.

Chad66,
in my case one of the silver plated copper pads inside the bootlock switch was totally corroded. Nearly no copper left, so the slider could not make a connection. I had to replace thesitch with the pigtail. Have a look at: http://www.anyboard.net/autos/cars/scorpio/posts/339.html
I think it was less than 20 quids. But a tricky work.
Regards
Armin
