Title: throttle "reversal" under load
Post by martink on Feb 1st, 2005, 12:17pm
Hi,
I've a 2.8 N reg estate, MAP sensor based fuel system. 61000 miles full service history.  On mild hill climb I get an effect where more throttle reduces power markedly with noticeably throaty exhaust noises, lifting the foot a little gives a power surge - I end up feeling for the hotspot!. On steeper hills (the Holmfirth to Greenfield road or the westbound M62 around j24-22 for those in the North) speed sticks at ~55, there's just no more go unless I kick down into second - when it changes back we slow down again!  Added to that lumpy idle, fairly poor fuel economy (25mpg cruising at 60 on the motorway!) and I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Oxy sensors replaced recently (one had failed) 70k mile service a few months ago made no difference, emissions very good, ECU tested and passed.

Can anyone help??

Hi mate,

Is the Cat definitely ok. It sounds a bit like you have a partially blocked exhaust. An obd scan might show this up for you.

Hi,

Yes its a 12V 2.9  and the Cat is Ok, the exhaust isn't obstructed. Thanks for the tip re the distributor, I'll check that out.
