Hi Rich,

Your car will run fine with the cats inards removed, but prob won't pass an MOT :-/

If it's rattling prob best to knock it's inards out so any loose bits dont block ya exhaust causing more probs :o

Hi Rick

I am currently running my 1997 24v with the guts removed from both cats. without any problems.

Sounds like a bucket of bolts when you start the engine from cold. But music when you wind the wick up a bit!!

Reminds me of my Traco 350 Small Block Chevrolet fitted to my Holden Monaro in my mispent youth..

Waiting for new cats to arrive from Germany in the next couple of days.

Will then install with all new sensors.

Make sure you wear a mask when you knock out the cats.

Hi Rick

Just to add to my last reply.

The cats run at very high temperature and chemical metal will not survive and will contaminate the cat and the downstream sensor.
The core of the cat will have probably started to turn inside the box and the high temp wadding/packing that keeps it in place will have disappeared down you exhaust sytem and hopefully out the end..

Thats why the cat rattles.

Remove cats place in vice use a old long screwdriver and hammer. break up the core from the inlet side and empty the bits out a little at a time. A industrial vac cleaner will help and will keep the dust down..
Use a good quality mask as the ceramic dust contains heavy metals..

The cure longterm is: Lots of £££

Hi
Very nice Vette
You just cannot beat lots of cubes = lots of grunt.
My Traco 350 was on the dyno at 460 bhp @ 7200 rpm running 105 octane race fuel and that was a few years ago.
Managed 5 to 7 mpg on a good day if you were lucky.
I looked after my friends Vette fitted with a Traco 454 big block built by John Greenwood Racing. 3 to 5 mpg in race trim..
And we grumble about fuel economy. Ironic!
