Title: ALARM and HEADLIGHTS
Post by jemjives on Feb 8th, 2005, 8:16am
Hi,

2.0 ghia Ultima estate.

1.  The alarm has had a tendancy to go off intermittently just lately (annoying at 0300). I have checked to make sure windows fully closed etc

2.  Offside headlamp unit. The dip beam is not working.
I have changed with a working bulb and checked fuses.
Are there connections and wiring I can check with my limited technical ability?

Hi,

1. Check the bonnet switch. It is located left of centre on the front flat metal bit where the bonnet catch is (Well you said limited technically!!) If all else fails, the horn  for the alarm is located behind the battery

2. Have you checked that you are getting 12v at the bulb? You may have a broken wire or loose plug. Some kind soul will be along shortly with the address for the wiring diagrams.

and I am a kind soul really!... there is also a wealth of info on the wiring on the main site but refers mostly to the main loom if I remember correctly worth checking it out though..

And not forgetting the connections under the drivers side fuse box, this is how mine started.
The connectors have a tendency to work loose, give them all a firm push to try reseating them.
Unfortunately I dont know exactly which one is the culprit.
You will need to remove some trim etc. around the coin box to the lower right of the steering column, the underside of the fuse box is above the accelerator pedal.

like Baz said, the false alarm is normally due to a dodgy bonnet switch.

If you want to disconect the alarm, simply remove the multiplug from the bonnet pin switch or as Baz pointed out, unplug the alarm horn behind the battery.

Hi  :D

If checking the bonnet switch please be careful as the rubber cover over the spring is not particulary secure on the base and you may end up with the Zebedee effect  ;D I know it's happened to me in the past  :'(
