Its a 2.3 would have thought if Vulcan
looking for a replacement it would be a 2.9
i think the gearbox as to be set up different
not a straight swop

I have an idea that the gearbox for the 2.9 24v is different to the 2.3. Anyone in the know can confirm this?

hi,vulcan what exactly is the problem with your gearbox,i know some members have said you have a prob but i have not seen a thread with it,cheers,gaz

As so I see now the 24v has 6 friction and steel plates while the 2.3 has 5 of each and the 2.0 4 of each.

Seems that only the right box will fit.

if you are let me know and i'll get the No where i
had my engine from.
this gearbox on sale here not sure how he can say
it ok am sure the car was a non runner off ebay when
he bought it

I can confirm that a 24v A4LDE will fit into either a 2.0 or a 2.3. The only thing that needs swapping is the bellhousing. The electrical connector on the gearbox is identical.

The ratio's on the 24v box are ever so slightly different but the difference is hardly noticable.

Yep Danny.. it will maybe go from 2.9 backwards but the main issue wa s would a 2.3 fit a 2.9? and the answer was no.. the 2.9 has 6 friction bands where the 2.3 has 5. To me that says the 2.3 can take a 2.9 box but not the other way round.....
