Title: Temperature - too cold?
Post by Nick_H on Feb 22nd, 2005, 10:38am
Hi all,

This morning, my car wasn't heating up at all - the temerature guage needle was sitting only just above the blue section.

Normally this would be sitting mid-way on the guage.

Any ideas what could be up?

(I know it's a snowy day, but I don't think that's the answer... ;) )

I should perhaps clarify that the heater wasn't putting out any heat, so not just a problem with the guage...

Cheers,
Nick

If the car is NOT heating the water up then that would suggest that either the thermostat is stuck in the OPEN position and with the cold weather, getting too much cooling. ORr your coolant levels are too low.

I would suspect the former but worth checking... You could try blocking off some of the radiator  with some card or similar during the cold weather and see if that helps., but to be honest it is not a sloution I personally would recommend.

Find the cause and effect a remedy is the best solution.

Thanks Snoopy,

I remember in the old days there was a trick of popping the thermostat into a jug of hot water and seeing if it was working or not...  That still valid?

Showing my age there, perhaps...

I bet the thermostat's a pain in the backside to get to...?
