Today I changed the power steering pump, but when I started the engine afterward, there was a load sqeeling noise from the engine, probably from the pump.

I suppose there is air in the system that makes the noise, although it sounds almost like worn fan belt, only louder.

I have downloaded the official Ford procedure from this site (thank you! ;)), and it says you are supposed to use a hand vacuum pump with a special adaptor. Do i have to get this equipment, or are there any other smart ways I can make a little vacuum in the power steeing fluid?

Are hand vacuum pumps with the correct adaptor at all available, and for what price? ???

hi there

if there's air in the system, then turn the steering from lock to lock. do it at a 'normal' speed, to reduce pressure build up.

I have already tried it twice, but without any help. (when the car was idleing). The noise is so bad that i don't think it will be a good idea to drive around with it, right now.

Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.

is the belt at the corect tightness? maybe it is the belt that is squealing

I don't know.

I just cranked the belt tensioner back on. (don't have a toque wrench) Maybe that was unwise? :o

Problem solved. I redid the belt and oiled a little bit.

Bad news is that I have to change the whole power steering rack. It is leaking a lot of fluid from one of the joints. :(

That is going to cost. Does anybody know where I can get a spare part as cheap as possible? (I am driving a LHD-car, which exludes UK, right?)

BTW, I have the standard PAS-system (No sensotronic or whatever the name of the upmaket model is).
