Title: rubber insulators on rear suspension Post by sobjoy on Feb 26th, 2005, 9:53pm There is one rubber insulator on each side that provides the location for the forward end of the rear suspension. It basically bolts to the floor under the rear passengers' feet. The maunual shows the insulator is removed using a special tool. Has anyone changed these bushes without the special tool? Is it possible without a direct line to the Vatican? Pressing them back in with a hydraulic jack seems possible, but what about getting them out? |

Title: Re: rubber insulators on rear suspension Post by Eddie on Feb 27th, 2005, 3:45pm Any method can be used that does the job,a friend of mine used a hammer and chisel. Ford specify the removal tool for workshop use. Cant have experts using hammers and chisels!! To insert the new one, plaster it in washing up liquid or silicone grease, offer it up as far as possible and place a spare trolley/bottle jack underneath it,and jack away! May take a couple of attempts to get it in straight. You could make up a tool using a length of threaded rod and large washers etc. eddie |

Title: Re: rubber insulators on rear suspension Post by sobjoy on Feb 28th, 2005, 10:41pm Thanks - always like to check to be sure there are no hidden issues before getting out the bolster and sledge. If all else fails, I could burn them out, but that might damage some paint - and some upholstery and some headlining. ;) |
