Title: Battery Keeps Going Flat
Post by spencer on Feb 27th, 2005, 4:42pm
Since owning my new Scorpio and having major work carried out if I leave the car for more than 36 hours without starting it the battery is completly flat.  I replaced the old battery with a deep cycle optima battery but still the same thing happens. I have had the electrics tested and there are no dead shorts on the vehicle so Iam completely puzzled. Does anyone have an Idea

regards

Spencer

hi there

have you checked the glove box light goes out? or the boot?

you say you've had the electrics checked, what about for a drain? one problem with the scorpio is the alternator diodes start allowing current to drain.

work you're way through....

I have recently replaced the alternator and also purchased a yellow top optima deep cycle battery.  The Alternator is pushing out 13.85 volts on tickover with nothing running which I,ve been told is normal.  The battery however loses 0.5volts approx. every 7 hours.  From what you say the alternator may be new but the diodes could be broken causing the discharge is this correct.

could check fuse 36 in the auxiliary fuse box
which is for the battery power saver.

Thanks all for your comments I have sorted the problem.  Apparently a modification was made to the Auxilliary fuse box soon after the Scorpio had been released. The problem was that during wet/damp weather water used to run behind the auxilliary fuse box causeing very odd behaviour. Examples ignition lights flickering on, Main beam on head lights coming on, Air bag light flickering on and many more.  all these issues caused the battery to go flat when the ignition was off.  Problem solved by having the Auxilliary fuse box replaced with the new modified version. Cost for it to be supplied and fitted £175.00 + VAT

Hope my findings assist with other peoples problems of the same kind.

Spencer

Captain

Did it happen to you as well?

Or is that just a proprietorial interest.

See you at Harewood?
