Title: Hot air Post by Paul_Boulden on Mar 5th, 2005, 10:44am The heater on my 1996 2.9 12v Ultima blows little air from the side vents but a lot from the centre, are they all like this or is there a flap sticking somewhere ? Thanks, Paul Boulden |

Title: Re: Hot air Post by johnv on Mar 5th, 2005, 2:07pm but mine is the other way around, comes out the sides real powerful but not so strong as the centre. i alway have mine set to the far right, that's windscreen i don't bother to keep swopping all the time. the air mixes all together anyway. |

Title: Re: Hot air Post by mr._floppy on Mar 5th, 2005, 4:59pm Yeah, mine does the same so it seems to be a common quirk of the system, I'm not complaining though, on recent mornings where the outside temp. is well below zero within three minutes of the engine being on there is oodles of lovely hot air to warm me bones. Never had a car with a better heating system. |

Title: Re: Hot air Post by johnv on Mar 5th, 2005, 7:29pm i got one car that does that, never get warm, before I look to therostat, I going to after a run, and with the engine running, with a pair of leather gloves on, undo the filler cap slowly to see if that might dis-place any air that may or maybe not in the system. If that don't do anything, I will put in a new therostate and drain and refill coolant very slowly. The strange thing is, even with cardboard in front of the raditor, that does nor lift the temperture either. |

Title: Re: Hot air Post by Eddie on Mar 6th, 2005, 4:57am Steve(lufc), Its sounds as if you have either a blocked or leaking matrix. The symptoms you describe are exactly what I had, turned out to be a very small leak in the heater matrix. There was no sign of a leak in the car (wet carpet etc.) but there was a funny (curry) smell,no amount of backflushing etc. would help. In the end I ripped the dash of to look at the matrix and found a mess. The bottom of the matrix was covered in limescale type of crud and could be seen to be weeping. Sorry to suggest such a problem. eddie |

The job looks time consuming rather than difficult, worth a go if you have a spare few days and an extra car to get the one part / tool you had forgotten. Thanks Paul Boulden |

Title: Re: Hot air Post by Eddie on Mar 6th, 2005, 5:33pm There was a loss of coolant,but it was so small,had to be topped up once a week. I think the amont was so samll it would evaporate befor reaching the carpets etc. The worst aspect next to being frozen in winter was the pong! I have to admit I did keep puttting the job of, but one day my concience got the better of me! However a good read of the forum write up and a staedy methodical approach was all that was needed, dismantle and replace the matrix day one,replace the bits day two. The single most difficult bit was disconnecting the pipes at the engine side bulkhead. eddie |
