Title: Unbalanced Front Brakes. 1998 Cosworth
Post by johnv on Mar 7th, 2005, 4:35pm
Took car into my little garage now that I am sick of FMD.
Brakes failed MOT on unbalanced front brakes but out on the road, brakes  very good, no trying to move off course.
So straight away they said that the brake discs where beyond the recommended thickness, and that may well be the trouble.
But I had none of that skimmy on the steering wheel under light braking. So it must not be that they are distrorted, just worn.
So they did offer to show me if I went back, but I said no proceed.
In the back of the car I had a brand new set of Ford braKe pads for front and rear wheels. These where in the car when I brought it.
I also had a set of steel discs (vented) for my 1996 2000cc. I put them in just in case.
But blow me I was told they are to small. so they have got to go to Ford for some.
I read on this site that all cars have vented fronts and on the rear they are plain except the cosworth being vented.
But no one said that on the 2000 cc car they where smaller.
So what about the 2.3 are these as the 2000cc or are they the same as the cosworth for size.
Thanks to anyone that knows.

When comparing the item numbers on the internetstore here in Sweden,  the conclusion is that the discs are not the same, sorry.

thanks to tobbe, i realise that now that the 2000cc car has smaller size discs than the cosworth or is it that the 1996 car has smaller ones that 1997/98/ anyway it don't matter now all sorted.
Well I absolutely god-smaked.
My new arrangements (now that I have dumped my Ford Main Dealer) was to remove front wheels and old discs and fit new discs and new pads was just £36 + vat. Labour.
I mean its not worth getting you hands dirty at this cost.
Of course the Ford discs where £85.08 +vat.
If I had had this job done at my Ford Main Dealer, it would have cost about £150 to £200 for the Labour.
So I know where I am going now.
