Title: Oil leak, Cosworth
Post by Neil W on Mar 9th, 2005, 3:14pm
For some time I had a minor oil leak from the front of the left-hand bank, which seemed to come from the line of the valve cover gasket, and following advice from this forum was cured last October by replacing the valve cover gaskets on both banks. Owing to lack of time, I did not remove the fuel system in order to clean up the centre of the V which seemed to be fairly oily but was difficult to see into clearly. For several months afterwards the front of the engine block remained clean.

I now have another oil leak, which creeps slowly across the front of the left hand bank (the right hand bank front is not readily visible), but this time only from and below the line of the head gasket. Is this oil likely to be seeping out (against the air flow when the car is moving) from the V or could it be a new leak? The car is normally parked facing up a slight incline on my driveway.

Anyone with experience of this who could let me have some tips as to possible sources of the oil leak would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Neil W.

the only thing in that area with any pressure is the chain tensioner +/or gasket, its right under the water pipes in the front of the v, other than that its cam cover, or head gasket to timing cover.

Thanks, Martin. Looks like another investigation job - when the weather gets a bit warmer!
