Title: Power steering fluid leak, Cosworth
Post by Neil W on Mar 9th, 2005, 3:15pm
I have a slight weep of fluid from the bottom of the power steering fluid reservoir, where a short pipe to the front of the engine (power steering pump?) connects. I have tried tightening the rubber hose clip to no avail. Should I just replace the pipe and clip or do I need to replace the reservoir as well? Your advice would be most appreciated.

Hi Neil,  There was a TSB about this very problem I recall that it requires a NEW PIPE and clips Or you could try chopping the end off the xisting pipe and refitting... It can cause problems with teh alternator if it drips onto that..... worth looking at though...

TSB 113/1997 refers

Neil

See your mail.

I have the same problem on my '98 facelift.  First the top clip and now the bottom but they seem to have tightened up ok.  According to the TSB it was sorted in '97.

My red 98 facelift used to have this problem, but the silver one now doesn't seems to have been a bad bit of design. easy sorted according to the majority view!!

Thanks guys for your advice and comments. Looks like a new short pipe and a couple of clips. Incidentally, the pipe appears to be too short to allow it to be cut back.

As a 1998 car I assume the TSB had already been included at build time, but I notice that the version on Ford's TIS shows the short pipe coming from the side of the reservoir whereas mine comes out at the bottom.

Did anyone find it necessary to replace the reservoir as well, on the basis that the outlet (one of two) in the base had become distorted over time and was therefore a contributor to the leak?

Thanks,

Neil W.

My garage tells me that there's a leak on a plate on the PS pump as well.  Being changed under warranty (I hope).
