Title: Rear wheels rubbing on wheel arch
Post by cookie_boy2000 on Mar 9th, 2005, 7:39pm
Hi

I had cause to have 5 people in the car yesterday (including myself), problem is we had to turn back 15 minutes into our journey as I could feel/hear the rear tyre hitting the wheel arch on the smallest of bumps.

We reckon we had a total of 70 stone in the car, but surely a car such as the scorpio should be able to transport 5 adults?

I did notice that the rear of the car does seem lower than most cars, is this correct?

Your suggestions would be most appreciated.

What wheels and tyres have you got on? I had to swap my tyres on Saturday because I fitted Scorpio 17" alloys with 235/45 tyres as recommended and every bump I hit, the tyres hit the wheel arches because they were too wide. I wouldn't mind but it listed the tyres as OK for the wheels for the Scorpio!!

Could be that your rear shocks may need changing as well

More than likely that the rear springs are tired. Has the car got a towbar, indicating some heavy loads in the past?

A cheap solution is to visit a camping shop and buy some spring assisters but in the long term i'd get some new springs.
