Title: Alarm Problem.
Post by Simmo on Mar 9th, 2005, 9:44pm
A Scorpio owner who is unable to use the internet has a problem in that his alarm goes off a short while after being set,for no apparent reason. Can anyone offer any advice I could pass on. I'm not sure if it has any bearing on it but he says the remote key fob works(He's had it checked) but there is some doubt as to whether the receiving unit is working. I see from the site that this is located behind the glove box. He says after it has gone off if he locks the car with the key its OK. Any ideas Gents?. Seems to me that if the cars locks with the remote then the main unit must be working but the science of the thing baffles me anyway!!!.

As far as I know, locking with the key does the same thing as one press on the remote.
Turning the key to the unlock position then to the lock position is the same as 2 presses on the remote i.e. sets the immobilizer.

One common cause of the problem you describe is a faulty bonnet/door switch.
Check the operation of the bonnet switch and its wiring.
The door switches can be checked by opening/closin each door in turn to see if interior light comes on.

If the car is fitted with movement sensors on the central door posts above the upper seat belt mountings, then make sure a window isnt open.

If the doors lock via the remote then that is ok.
