Title: remote on boot Post by ferretmobile on Mar 17th, 2005, 2:40pm Hi guys, my remote opens and closes door locks o.k. and used to open boot on the odd occasion. Now it wont open the boot at all...I can open the boot with the key no probs and with the remote VERY close to the lock thingy with the boot lid open I can hear the lock going whirr-tink if you get my drift. but it just dont want to open on the remote. This is so frustrating and not to mention embarassing when you are standing there pressing away and Mrs ferretmobile looks at me in that "what now?"that only the femail of the species has mastered.... ;) Ferret |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by mr._floppy on Mar 17th, 2005, 4:26pm You could try putting the remote to your temple ( on your head , that is , not your shrine to Britney or Kylie ) and pressing the button. Seriously, it does work , it doubles my boot opening range to about 30 yards, don't ask how !! :-/ :-/ :-/ |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by craig on Mar 17th, 2005, 5:40pm that was on top gear BTW..... apparently it works by your brain amplifying the remote signal....... and yes,IT DOES WORK... :) |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by Rod on Mar 17th, 2005, 6:02pm When my boot won't open, I find that the seals are simply sticking and the motor is whirring until I give it a helping hand. Dead embarrassing in ASDA carpark. I recall an old Post that suggested the best thing to rub onto the seals. Trouble is, I can't remember what it was. Anyone got a better memory than me? |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by craig on Mar 17th, 2005, 6:55pm strange as it may seem rod,but if i remember the smart money was on talcum powder (yeah,i know ???),the boot ususally tends to stick in wet weather, hence i suppose, talcum powder on the seal will help prevent this... HTH |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by ferretmobile on Mar 18th, 2005, 12:01pm I have now tried the talc trick and all seems to be ok again :) If I use the remote on the boot it works better on the off side of the car. Is this because the pick up is on the off side? I have also tried optimum distance and it is about six meters. I will try the temple trick this weekend and see if I can increase the working distance ::) Thanks again Ferret |

Richard - If you put Talcum powder on the rubber boot seals - it seems to prevent humidity and vacuum sticking - thus - opens with real power and speed - of course -adjust the springs as well if needed Captain / VA |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by Rod on Mar 18th, 2005, 5:37pm Great, Craig. Gave the doors and boot seals the talc treatment this morning and it works really well. ;D But the lady friend was a bit 'iffy' when I picked her up and she needed to be sweet talked about the nice smell inside the car. :-[ |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by Dave on Mar 18th, 2005, 5:55pm Additional... Sorry if this is unnecessary... I've read most of these posts. If your boot spring is a bit weak, ferret, put one or two cable ties on each spring like so! http://tinypic.com/1r2hw3 Sorts it out good and proper. D |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by riverside-red on Mar 21st, 2005, 4:31pm Sorry to hijack this thread, but I thought it would be better than starting a new one, does the remote work on the back hatch of the estate? I can hear a wirring sound, but it does not lift, or even unlock. Any help would be greatly appreciated, cos I have to unlock the car, then use the key to unlock the boot to avoid setting off the alarm. Thanks R-R |

Title: Re: remote on boot Post by LiverpaulH on Mar 23rd, 2005, 12:14pm The remote does open the boot on the estate as in it unlocks it, but with the weight and no springs to automatically open it it stays in the down position. If I open the boot with the key the alarm goes off as you say, but opening with the remote disables the alarm. It seems you must have a prob with the release mech or the remote. Just check though that once you've opened the boot via remote that the hatch can't be lifted, you never know. Paul |
