I was doing my normal listening under the bonet to the engine. To hear if anything was on its way out. And everything seemed fine. However when I rev up the 2.3 from the butterfly. I hear a loud but short hissing sound. It sounds like air escapeing from somewhere. It only happens when there is a quick burst of rev from idle speed. Ive had my ear to the butterfly it sure is coming from somewhere around there.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Is it just the normal air rushing in through air intake. Or could there be a leak? Is it normal to hear a hiss?

not comming from the exhaust manifold? they're a bit prone to cracking.

what did you do replace the manifold or weld it? :-/

If it is a cracked manifold there have been a number of posts on the subject and the short answer is that replacement is the only real answer. :(. To weld the unit requires it to be taken off the car because of the heat required and any attempt to deal with it on the car could trigger the air bag which would have to be 'de-activated' first. The success rate of 'welds' is ,I understand,not good anyway. HTH Simmo.
