Title: whats going to go next? mirrow problem
Post by derekne on Apr 2nd, 2005, 10:00pm
Well me again :'(
I got in my car earlyer and yes wait for it................My mirrow fell off the window >:(
I wouldnt of believed it if I hadnt seen it for myself. The mirow when I sat in the car. Just went like soft toffe and slowly peeled its self off the window. Naturally I tried pushing it back on but no way was it staying.
So I tried super glue. After a hour of constant pressing my arm was killing. However the toffe effect of slow motion falling happend again. Every single car I have had since my first 10 years ago. Every single mirrow of every car has fallen off. Ive ended up selling every one with out the mirrow. As ive tried almost every method going to get the mirrows to stick. Even have tried brand new ones.
Does anyone know how to cure unstickable interiour mirrows?
Regards......

Yes, You need to clean the glass with some alcohol ( meths ) will do and get a new adhesive pad from the glass fitters and stick it back on using a new pad.

Derek,

exactly the same thing happened to my wife when she drove my red one. The mirror just fell off, and after all the trouble some people go to to get them off!!

I just popped down to the local Autoglass and the guy stuck it back for me FOC with some mixed epoxy stuff. They may make a charge but I found that the mirror pads are not strong enough to hold the weight of the Scorpio mirror

Good advice from Baz there.

Different car completely (my old Mk3 Cortina again) but I had a similar thing with that, only it was the catches for the opening rear quarter windows (2-door model).

Anyway, they are only stuck on and are notorious for coming off. No kind of glue seemed to work, but the guy down at Autoglass used this magic stuff and they've been in place ever since. Must be a good 6 or 7 years aog now.
