Title: Re: HELP Please battery, oil, abs light still on?? Post by Eric_R on Apr 8th, 2005, 8:03pm Spytron, Not sure what the round thing is, unless it is the aircon activator on the evaporator. Let's look at that later because the electtrical problems are more important at the moment. Make sure that the drain holes at the lowest point of the shelf are clear so that water draining from the windscreen can get away - if the battery shelf is corroding it sounds as though this simple job has been neglected. This may be blocked with old leaves or muck. Next, try to get the car under cover or sheltered out of the rain. Sometimes the fusebox can be dried out by using a hairdryer on gentle heat, then leaving a bag of silica overnight, followed by more hairdryer. If the copper contacts inside the fusebox are not corroded everything may return to normal once the battery is reconnected. Make sure the top of the fusebox is properly fixed, but water has already probably got in underneath because of the standing water. The auxillary fusebox must also be dry, so check that too, and if necessary dry that with the hair dryer. However, if the fusebox has corroded there'll be nothing for it but to replace it. This is possible yourself with some contortion to reach up beneath the dashboard on the drivers side to disconnect the multiplug. Until the fusebox (and the auxillary) is dry you'll get all sorts of odd symptoms because relays and circuits are being connected at inappropriate times and the battery is being drained which leads to modules resetting. Good luck with it. |

Title: Re: HELP Please battery, oil, abs light still on?? Post by spytron on Apr 8th, 2005, 8:13pm hi thanks eric_r i have checked both relay/fuse box ( near battery ) and the fuse box ( drivers side) and both lids and seals seem fine and there is no sign of damp or water on top of either ( can only see top of course as have not attempted to take either apart) it does seem that it has never for some time any way had a battery/fuse box cover as the actual metal part that the battery sits on is about 1/3 gone ie i can see the engine if looking down at the angle of the front window direction. there was nothing hold the battery so it could move a little bit even though it seems it is a fairly tight fit( gettiing it in and out. should i at least try drying both fuse boxes with a dryer ( and how long for etc) before putting the battery on in morning? many thanks |

Title: Re: HELP Please battery, oil, abs light still on?? Post by spytron on Apr 9th, 2005, 12:51pm hi all re tryed fitting battery and same thing happened. also i noticed a small buzzing sound from the fuse box next to the battery i guess it is damp or has watre in it therefore is it easy to take apart and clean and dry or should i just replace it? if so how much are they please any one know? should i also check the other fuse box on drivers side??? the car starts and runs but i dont want to take out anywhere as i am sure it will get another flat battery as the ignition lights stay on when the key is out cheers :'( :'( :'( |

Title: Re: HELP Please battery, oil, abs light still on?? Post by spytron on Apr 9th, 2005, 1:00pm hi i dont think it is the relay as it did rain quite a bit the other day and the problems started. it is coming from that area though and the lights still stay on when key out same symptons as before at the start. i will have to take apart i guess. anyone know how much a new one isor second hand one in case i have to replace or can these be cleaned and sprayed with wd40 if not corroded?? also when key is out and i turn on indicators all dials and display go mad. is this a sure sign the the fuse boxes are wet? many thanks |

Title: Re: HELP Please battery, oil, abs light still on?? Post by Snoopy on Apr 9th, 2005, 1:35pm Although I have NOT done the job myself , my understanding of dismantling the fuse box(es) is quite straight forward. Take your time and be very methodical in assembly/disassembly take picturs as you go along. In fact ther are write ups here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fuseboxes.htm , and BTW good luck |
