Try taking it apart and carefully cleaning the contacts inside . The ones on the PCB with a pecil rubber, You can also clean it all out inside iwth either some alcohol or similar. if it doesn't work you have nothing to loose and then try reprogramming it again.

Changed the batteries and tried the way recommended here without success.

Followed the instructions in the manual instead, ie.............

"Lock car, press unlock on remote, and unlock door with key within 10 secs"

Worked first time! Amazed!!

It's a 97 2.3 Ultima Estate if that makes any difference re anything

If you look at the inside of the fob where the batteries sit you will see that there is a small 'tag' sticking up from the base of the contacts. Now look at the circuit board and you will see a small square just above ,and to the right of ,the large round 'disc'. The 'tag' has to connect to the small square as that is the positive contact and the large round one is the negative. It can be a bit of a 'trial and error' job to get the tag to make contact. It needs to be more or less upright from experience but I sorted my remote out recently by adjusting this contact. Do go steady!!.Also make sure batteries are clean and remove fingermarks etc . Positive side down. HTH,Simmo
