Title: Brake Master Cylinder
Post by twoakers on Apr 21st, 2005, 7:03pm
Guys, where can I get an overhaul kit (you know rubber seals etc) for my 1995 Scorpio Ultima?

A few Ford part dealers that I have emailed have said that a kit is not available.

I have been quoted £170.40 inc from fordpartsuk.

The brake pedal is good and the car stops well, excpet that it seems to go down a little bit further when I push hard.......

Any tips or advice would be welcome :D

Dave

You seem to be fairly sure that the problem lies with the master  cylinder,   are the  brake calipers  up to scratch ?  no brake pipe leaks ?

have you tried changing the brake fluid to see if this makes it any better. ::)

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that a repair kit wasn't available.
I recently went in search of a repair kit for the rear calipers, and was clearly told by FMD and Partco that there was no such thing any more - for safety reasons - they don't want people playing about with them. They only want you to replace a complete unit.  :(

The information is quite correct . there are NO repair kits made any more on the grounds of safety. ( You might just get some OLD stock in some factors). So I am afraid its a case of bite the bullet and buy new.

Yep, thanks for all the advice guys.

I have now worked out that there is no overhaul kit available.

I have replaced all the flexible hoses (and all 4 discs and pads) Stops really quick now!

I think I have now managed to convince myslef that the master cylinder is OK. It feels the same as a new Volvo brake pedal on cars at work! []
