Title: Heater Blower Motor
Post by iainc on May 4th, 2005, 1:49pm
I think that the intermittent cutting out of the heater blower motor has been referred to in previous posts, but I can't recall what solution was offered.  The HBC in my 1997 Ultima normally functions fine, but, occasionally, in town driving, when there is less of an air-ram effect, it will cut out for a second or two and then restart.  I assume this is an over-heating effect with a safety thermal cut-out.  It makes no difference whether on Auto or Manual,  CC on or off.  I have removed the HBC and given the heat sink a bit of a scour, to no obvious avail.  The heat sink looks like one of the newer long ones.  My question is whether there is a cure for this other than paying nearly £130 for a new Ford unit?

hi there

all the info for the cc/air con is on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acindex.htm

by the look of it, the only cure is replacement. :(

you could try a breaker, but you might get the same problems.

hth
btw you've done the reset on the cc? sometimes takes 2 or 3 times to work.

Hi Iain

99% sure it's HBC module. Had the same problem and replaced mine with a new one. No problems since. The only worry with buying second hand is you could end up with another duff one.
I got mine for £90 + VAT through a mates trade account.

Cheers
