Title: rounded nuts
Post by MEATMAN on May 8th, 2005, 9:14am
last week i thought i would treat my car to an oil /filter change.
got under the car (ultima 2.9) only to discover that the sump nut had been rounded off and i mean rounded
phoned local ford garage told them of my woes and they quoted me £120.00 to fix problem.
as i dont have that kind of loose change laying around
i went to my local machine mart store i explained what had happened and he (paul) recommended i use a bolt grip socket.
he showed me the socket and how it worked he could see i was still a bit sceptical so he said look if it doesnt work bring it back and ill give you a full refund.
any how got back home got under the car this socket i have got to say is the bogs dollocks must be the design of it but it gripped the sump bolt no problem and out it came.
so if anyone has the same problem of rounded nuts i would have no hesitation in recommending these sockets, they are made by irwin and are known as a bolt grip set you get 5 sockets 10 11 13 14 and 16 mm.
for about £20.00.
they are also available via screwfix but work out more expensive.
only problem i had after the oil change was the sump bolt i had bought from ford to replace the damaged one didnt fit.
mind you all gredit to cg ford they delivered one to me at home within the hour. wish all dealers were like that .
