Title: Steering problem Post by sterio on May 10th, 2005, 10:43pm My steering has started to make a knockig sound sometimes when turning the wheel max left/right during parking. Now I how found that it looses alot of steering fluid. I filled yesterday and today when I drove it sounded aful from the power steering and when I looked it was almost empty! What is the most probably failure? Is it hard to fix ? Thanks Dave |

Title: Re: Steering problem Post by mr._floppy on May 11th, 2005, 11:53am You could be lucky and find you only have a fractured pipe or leaking pipe joint, easily fixed. Remove the plastic sump guard and check the pipes. |

Title: Re: Steering problem Post by Simmo on May 11th, 2005, 7:01pm If there is no obvious fluid about check the steering gaiters as they can hold a large amount of fluid but will gradually expand and you should be able to feel the fluid in them and see the expansion, This usually means a new rack as attempts to repair seals are not generally successful There have been a number of post on the subject |

Title: Re: Steering problem Post by dart on May 11th, 2005, 11:22pm Also, have a look directly under the power steering filler bottle, the pipe that joins onto it is well known for leaks! and it's not always noticeable,if the hose clip has rotted, replace it with a good quality jubilee clip. |

Title: Re: Steering problem Post by sterio on May 12th, 2005, 2:59pm Simmo! Your right, behind the rubber was fluid so I have to change the steering rack. Is it common that the steering pump has to be changed? My pump has been leaking a little during a long time or it may come frome the houses that goes to the reservoir? The pump had to work without fluid for a 10 min drive to get the car home. Do you think I have to change it to? Thanks Dave |

Title: Re: Steering problem Post by Simmo on May 12th, 2005, 4:27pm I'm afraid I'm not qualified to answer your question but I'm glad I was able to point you in the right direction. I have just replaced the hose from the reservoir to the pump on mine but the rack was changed about 18months ago. Good luck. Simmo |
