A warning to all now that the weather is getting warmer...KEEP THE SUN OFF YOUR REAR VIEW MIRROW WHEN PARKED UP IN THE SUN

Went out to my car at lunchtime and noticed what looked like a stain on the mirror glass, wondered whether it was just down to the heat and would go away once the air con did its job...but no....after about 5 minutes there was a 'pop' sound and the dreaded alien blood oozed out...luckily managed to get a hankie there before it went all over the console...must remember not to blow my nose with that one!....

Oh well, must be at least a week since I needed to repair something on the car....mustn't grumble...how much are these things?....not cheap I bet!!

Oh yeah, just to add to it, just had my air con repaired (compressor, condensor and dryer) now the heater blower has packed up....I'll stop now before I take a sledgehammer outside..... :'( :'(

I've been looking throught the archives regarding this problem.

There was talk of sourcing a replacement from outside Fords.

Has there been any progress on this. don't want to leave the existing one in there as its a right mess - its like looking through clingfilm now! :-/

chad...
if i remember,there were a few posibillities being bounded around with regards to the mirror,but i dont think any of them came to much,i think the main one's were with replacing the original ford one with a universal one from the states.....
but like i said,i dont think it was a suitable replacement

Managed to carry out a makeshift repair on the mirror thanks to Snoopy's write up on the main site so at least I can see whats behind me now.

Just one modification from the way Snoopy did it in that I didn't remove the whole mounting. It is possible to remove the front of the mirror in-situ (make sure you use a long instrument such as a metal ruler to prise it apart as a screwdriver will just rip it to pieces).

I removed all the electrical gubbins inside, cleaned the two pieces of glass and stuck it back together.

Other than not being auto dimming anymore, you can't tell the difference.

Intending to bite the bullet and get it replaced properly though, very useful feature that mirror.....

Just been in touch with Fords.

These mirrors are £151.99 inc VAT to buy. ::) :o

why not give e-bay a go, there always seems to be someone taking yet another Scorpio to bits and selling the parts..............do they know how many of these beauties Mr Ford actually made ? there wasn't that many to start with LOL
