Title: Oil for 1995, 2.9 12 valve Scorpio

Can any one tell me if its OK to use fully synthetic 5W40 in the above engine.

What would be the most appropriate oil for some one who goes skiing early, down to -23 in the village last year.

if you use it in a cold enviroment , there's 0W40 full synthetic, but 5W40 should be enough at -23 degrees.

Hi Josswallace,

Before I bougt my 1995 Cosworth, I drove an 1990 Granada with the 2.4 litre V6 engine, which engine is basically the same as the 2.9 Litre engine mounted in your Scorpio. I always used Shell Helix 5W40 oil and the engine ran very well with this oil. Now my brother drives this car, it has done 270.000 kilometres now and everything is still working fine, both engine and autobox! Minus 23 degrees Celsius should'nt be a problem with 5W40 oil I think, but I am not entirely sure, check the Scorpio Manual, in the back there is an overview of different viscosities and their temperature ranges.

Greetings Hans
