Title: Scorpio 2.9 P reg auto
Post by gary on May 23rd, 2005, 7:56pm

hi everyone

Just wondered if anyne else has had similar probems as myself with their scorpio.

Ive had the 2.9 automatic now for 4 years and only clocked up 68000 miles from new. I got the car when it had only done 48,000 (genuinne) but I constantly keep having to have new rear wheel bearings and tyres fitted.
I tow a caravan but probably only over 1000 miles per year has any one else out there had any similar problems or any ideas.

3 different garages cannot give me a reason why.
In additon to this I have had a new set of wheel hubs.

Id appriciate any info on this subject

regards

Gary :

Have the bearings been re-checked for tightness  each time after about 200-300 miloes because they can loosen up?..Hth

Hi Gary,

As you will more than likley know if you have been a caravanner for some time, but I think more important with the vunerability of the Scorpio's rear wheel bearing failure is the Nose Weight.

I have just started to use a Scorpio for the first time this year and only been out once some 250 mls towing, but have started to check the nose weight for this very reason after reading the weekness of the vehicle....you have got me worried now...

John

if the nose weight is to high as wudz says you will have wheels that sit like this   /  \  cambered,on the granadas some folks used to have the top side of the hub wedged out to make the wheels sit    I  I   upright this stops the wear on the tyres and evens the load on the bearings
dont know if the suspension is the same on the scorpio but worth looking in too
