Having got my car back today after ignition barrel change (see previous thread) it's now got that steering noise you get after the wheels have been off the ground during servicing - but only on one side.

To get the car onto the lowloader the techie had to push it off the drive backwards, with the car in neutral, whilst I steered as best I could - bearing in mind the engine wasn't running this was quite a job.

With the car behind the low loader he attached a winch underneath and pulled it onto the flat bed.

Is this one of those cure itself things or could damage have occurred by turning the wheel hard without the engine running?

hi there

try putting the front wheels on grass or loose ground. turn from lock to lock about 10 times each way. that should take any air out of the system.

sounds like system needs bleeding.
just put a glossy magizine under each front wheel (to make turning easier). start engine and turn steering from full lock to full lock several times. only keep it on full lock for a couple of seconds though. after a few trys you should find that the system is now 'bled' and all ok. just top up fluid and away you go. should you find that the fluid in the reservoir is always 'frothy' then you are suffering from 'cavitation' and is a sign of impending pump failure.

ps 'trying' to turn the steering without the engine running will do no harm whatsoever....its just hard work!
