Title: Rear shock absorbers
Post by baileg on Jun 1st, 2005, 7:32am
Hi all
My 95 Scorpio Estate has just failed its MOT due to worn lower bushes on the rear shock absorbers.
Replacement shocks will cost nearly £200 each! I am searching for secondhand units currently, but does anyone know if you can obtain the bushes separately and is it practical to replace them.
Will shocks from an Ultima fit?
I am not into repairs myself but have a friend who is a car mechanic who will do the work, hence my ignorance in these matters!
Thanks for any help
Regards
Graham

HI Graham,

You can reduce the cost significantly if you replace the shocks with ordinary ones instead of the self-levelling ones. My estate does not have self-levelling shocks installed and for everyday normal use, I would not know the difference. Unless you intend to carry heavy loads on a regular basis, stick to ordinary ones.

Mk 3 Granada Estate Rear Shocks are the same, if you're going for the second hand route.  (£20 notes at the local scrappy)
