Title: dreaded auto box slipping
Post by gawsworthboy on Jun 9th, 2005, 11:19am
Hi all, I'm a new owner of a 95 Ultima 2.0 saloon with 156K miles on her....done 200 miles since buying her last month but now she won't climb hills....seems OK on the flat straight but slows right down to almost a crawl on even the slightest hill.
Checked the gearbox fluid level and there is plenty but it's brown in colour.
Is there any adjustment to be done to the box or test I can do to tell if the box is on the way out?
Great site...Hope to be here for a while.

You could have the brake bands adjusted but it does sound as though things have started to fail really badly. The brown fluid is usua;lly an indication that the oil has ben getting extremely hot and that is down to various things.

The seals on the box also break down eventually and give rise to problems.

Its  a specialist job IMHO but the FULL manual on the auto box is on the main site.

Good luck.
