Title: Power steering fluid
Post by tony on Jun 11th, 2005, 12:24pm
Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what the capacity of the power steering system is, I'm changing the steering rack and need to know how much fluid to buy.

Also, is there a preferred fluid?

Cheers, Tony

I want to change my steering fluid also, don't know how much i need, seems like in ford manual it isn't written the quantity, just the type.

Cheers

Try looking here for some help.http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/steermanual.htm The quantity is about 1ltr. At least is is on my 2ltr 16v. To bleed the system you need to turn from lock to lock a couple of times preferabble with the weight off the front wheels to avoid undue strain. You can put a magazine under each wheel to achieve the same result. When you fill the reservoir be prepared to switch off the engine as soon as you start as the fluid will fall rapidly and you'll need to top up again to avoid the pump running dry.

Thanks Simmo. I did try and find it, but its not documented on the site as far as I can see. Was 1 litre enough when you did yours, as I've got a 22 mile round trip to pick some up so don't want to be left short.

Cheers, Tony

Tony, I bought a 1ltr container when I got the rack and I still have a drop left for any future top-ups. I think it was about a fiver, HTH Simmo
