Title: One Dead Scorpio!! Post by woody1966 on Jun 13th, 2005, 1:10pm Disaster!!....I'm afraid to say that my beloved 2.3 Ultima Estate decided to give up on me last night. Didn't have any indications of problems until the windscreen suddenly misted up completely. Imanaged to pull over and clear it and tried to continue on my way but the engine was as rough as hell so I pulled in again after about 1/2 a mile. As I pulled into the layby the engine died completely and steam/smoke started to come from under the bonnet. As I got out of the car to see what was what I noticed a nice oil trail behind me so I guessed at a major oil leak causing it to overheat. But on checking the water and oil levels they seemed to be fine, there was no dashborad warning lights on and the temp gauge was reading normal. Tried to restart the car but no go, the starter was the only thing turning! Afret waiting for 3 hrs for the recovery people to turn up the mechanic had a good look round and declared that the cam belt had gone. This doesn't seem right to me, surely if the cam belt had gone I'd have heard it and it wouldn't stop the engine from turning, or would it? I'm still waiting to hear something from the garage, so in the meanwhile has anybody had a similar problem or any thoughts on what may be wrong? |

Title: Re: One Dead Scorpio!! Post by woody1966 on Jun 13th, 2005, 1:25pm 'Fraid not.... it was a private sale. Didn't think that I'd have any problems with the engine 'cos it had a rebuild done about 18 months ago. If anything I was more concerned about the gearbox and planned on getting it done before too long. |
