Title: PLEASE HELP! OUT OF IDEAS
Post by philpim on Jun 18th, 2005, 7:12pm
Here goes. I have a 1996 Scorpio ultima 2.3 Saloon. The head gasket went. Oh dear! Bought a head set and my friend and I set about fitting it. All went well and we got it on, However!
The car has not ran right since! It runs but has very little power and sounds like we may have either a weak spark across all four plugs or are missing on 2. We did the timing chain as per the documentation provided on this site using the copper links and marked teeth, we have replaced fuel cut-off loom with a new one from Ford, we have replaced the cat as it was suggested the back pressure from the exhaust was too high and there was v.fine silver bits coming out of the exhaust and we have replaced the spark plugs.
All of this made no difference. We did notice that plugs 2 and 4 seem to soot up when the engine is run for a little while.

We are bit fresh out of ideas of what to do, I have a HUGE hole in my wallet where my cash used to be and a car which still refuses to run proporly.

HELPPP!!

Yours beggingly

Phil

Hi
Put up the area you live in might be someone local
who could do you an OBD scan failing someone local
try the nearest Ford dealer see how much they charge
for the scan report and do the work yourself,
i was quoted £30.00 and it takes abt 1/2 hour

OK. I live in Stockport, GTR Manchester. Any assistance would be hugely appreciated.

check all hoses, 7 electrical connections, sounds more like youve left something off, presume if ran ok befor you stripped it.

First thing I would do is a compression check on all cylinders. Pressure should not vary more than 10 psi across all four cylinders. Did you have the head skimmed? If not, the chances are that the head gasket is leaking again.
