hi craig

sounds like a a/c pressure problem. at a guess, i'd say high pressure because of a blockage at the dryer. are you getting a re-gas at wsm? might be an idea to get a new dryer before hand. also, is the system cycling? i know you have said a/c on  or off, but once it has started, it will run until it thinks it's safe (on the a/c system) to stop.

hi andrew....

had it regassed a week ago (couldn't wait untill weston, getting too hot sometimes round here :)).....

and have just noticed it now, read through all the air con section, and your comment about pressure seems to tally up,hopefully will be able to have a "poke about" today some time.......

just wanted a pointer where to start really ???

hi craig

you might get away with putting it in a long, deep vacuum. it's normaly moisture in the dryer, the silica gel? just fills up and can't take any more. imo, most scorpio's will start to have this problem soon if they haven't have a regular a/c service (2-3 years). it's just a age thing. i'm not sure of cost of a dryer (£60 fpuk+VAT etc), cheaper from an a/c guy. easy to change.

1 question here, lets assume it could be the pressure switch at fault...
is this a job i can do myself, have always erred on the side of caution with anything to do with the aircon, dont want to start to take the switch off and then :o :o :o,all the gas comes flying out and poor old craig is severley frozen...... ;D

hi craig

again only my opinion, but i still go for the dryer. if i remember correctly, the pressure switch goes into the dryer, so you need all the gas out. same to change the dryer.

how did the do the re-gas? i don't like commenting on other peoples experiences, but....

the way i get it done/ recommend is this....

1. get all the gas/oil out using the connection on the dryer. this might/will freeze when this is happening.
2. put it in a deep vacuum for a least 20mins if not longer.
3. get brand new gas/oil. not your old stuff topped up. @
4. add a bit of dye and check for leaks using a uv light.
5. check vent temp....about 4-8oC at 21oC outside temp.
done! time taken 1hour+

now, if you've had work done on the system and know it's ok (new dryer etc), you could get it topped up. if it's your first time, then the way i've descrided works for me. remember i had to fix my system at a cost of £450! :o no way i'm taking any chances ;D

btw, have you got the a/c mod? make sure the evap isn't freezing up. that would increase the pressure, i think :-/
just thinking though everything now.... hard and soft cc reset? check big green relay? wiring? multi-plugs to both fans?

Craig I presume you have done all the checks on here and the associated pages http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/airconelectrical.htm if not worth a try.
Good luck .

YEAH THAT PAGE YOU PUT UP DAVE LED TO BE BELIEVE THAT THE PRESSURE SWITCH WAS FAULTY (AS PER THE COMMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE).....

HOWEVER ANDREW HAS MADE A HOST OF SUGGESTIONS TO START WITH (THOUGHT HE WOULD AFTER THE PROBLEMS WITH HIS THOUGH ;)),AND HAS BEEN OF GREAT ASSISTANCE,THANKS,AT THE MOMENT,AS I'M ASSUMMING THAT IT IS NOT DANGEROUS TO RUN THE CAR ???,ALBEIT A BIT ON THE COLD SIDE ;),HAVE GOT TO TAKE THE CAR INTO THE GARAGE I ALWAYS USE,WHO ALSO DID THE DRAIN DOWN AND REFILL FOR ME,LET THEM HAVE AN INPUT ON IT AS WELL,PLUS THEY HAVE ALL THE EQUIPMENT TO TEST AS WELL.......

THANKS GUYS..

In reply to Scorpoi_Man's re-gas description, I had my car done at a 'specialist air-con'
site in Yellow Pages. There were various cars waiting, mine when turn came was driven in to workshop as though  FI start and job completly done in 15 mins. Asked for work schedule, what was air vent temp and how much oil was used, any leaks etc. Presented with invoice that said 're-gas' only and expected to pay £60 + VA

After long discussion bill reduced but next time will take more care who I use.

well after all the grief, the air con is now sorted, thegarage were absolute stars, had the car for nearly 5 hours, checked practically everything, but nothing seemed to be untoward, sensors were swapped and checked, relays etc.etc.............
anyway, after phone calls to several people, the only thing left was a faulty drain down and regas (andrew did suggest doing this again),after all this the calibration on the machine was out,and i had been topped up with the incorrect ammount, all is now rectified, and the car is once again runing perfectly,no charge was made (but i did do the bacon sarnie round at the burger van parked in the b and q car park opposite ;)),thanks to all who made suggestions.....
a very happy (and now a little cooler ;D)..
