Hi,

i've just bought a 2.5 td engine off ebay for my dead td scorp and was wondering if anybody knows if it will run before i go about fitting it because my car is a 1995 model and the engine is from a 1997 car, and i've just read that during that year the engine was upgraded and i think had a new engine management for it so i'm not too sure if it will run ok.

Mazzy,
It will not be easy to tell from a glance or a photo.
The easiest way to check is to mail the seller and ask him for the engine code from the VIN plate. Your engine is 25B, while the revised later diesel is Y5A.

If the VIN plate is not available, check the code on the engine block, normally on the left hand side. I'm not sure about Vittori engines, but Ford stamps the engine code in large letters on the block.

If it is the later engine, you need the entire engine loom, the engine management system and the PATS module connected, or you will need to have the PCM cleared and reprogrammed by a FMD with WDS. It's not by any means impossible, but it's extra work.

The later diesel also has the vacuum pump and the alternator in different places which might need some plumbing.

thanks for that info. hmmm, so not as easy as i thought then :( i will phone him and ask, and fingers arms legs toes eyes crossed it will be the older one. either way i'll try and make it run somehow.
