Title: too many problems not enough time
Post by phil_smith on Jul 25th, 2005, 5:39pm
hi guys i recently bought a 2.9 12v ultima after buying it the car has seemed to develop a lot of problems firstly the air con/climate control did not work (no power going to it) just had that fixed by fmd. new switchgear aswell as a regas new heated front screen switch £210.
abs warning light coming on occasionally  (faulty sensor) i think  ??? i also keep getting the radiator water level warning light coming on but theres plenty in there. it gets better about a week ago i had difficulty turning the key to unlock the steering lock now it has got worse i have tried all the keys including the master but they are all the same must be a problem with the barrel.
and to top it all off i went to start the car yesterday turned the key to turn the engine over but nothing happened no starter motor nothing
tried it 4 or 5 times all the normal warning lights were coming on and going out but when trying to turn over simply nothing no clicks no noises left it a few minutes tried again started straight away strange eh ???
i have allways been a ford fan and have had a lot them in my time was going to buy the 24v version and now i wish i had. i think im going to sell this one because i dont have the time to spend on it as i have a 6 month old who is not very well i may still buy a cossie if i can find one for the right price if anybody knows of one going for a resonable price let me know and also if anybodys interested i this project let me know 93000 on the clock with full ford service history tax and mot

Steady on Phil!!. Look at this to start with http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ignitionlock.htm. Two members have done this recently and found it dead easy and cost £12. The non starting may well be a battery problem. Did the speedo and rev counter dials go all the way round when you tried to start it?, Sure sign of battery problem. Give the lads on this site time to respond and you may well find your problems are solved. Good luck, Simmo

thanks for the reply the clocks did not move at all everything just went dead the battery is new  thanks for the advice on the barrel will go to fords later and order a repair kit as for the non starting problem do you think it could be a ecu fault the reason i ask is because after buying the car i noticed that the ecu under the glove box was uncliped from its holder it was all connected up but it gave me the impression that someone had been looking at it. saying that mind i had the car in fords recently for the abs fault but they did not find any dtc,s at all there is also a strong smell of petrol when the car is ticking over gives me the impression its running rich can it be tuned or is it controled by the ecu like newer fords
