Title: Rear Bump stop Post by mr._floppy on Aug 10th, 2005, 5:08pm With the MOT looming I've just discovered that the offside rear suspension bump stop has partially disintigrated ( the bottom fifth of it at least ) Questions: Will it fail the MOT ? Is it easy to replace ? |

Title: Re: Rear Bump stop Post by Eddie on Aug 10th, 2005, 7:18pm Yes it should fail,I failed for same reason! It can be replaced with a bit of huffing and puffing without removing spring. Remove whell and jack the car up then pop a stand under the chassis. The spring should open up a bit to allow access. The remains of the old stop can be pulled out on bits. Heres the tricky bit, coat the new stop in washing up liquid and push it through the gap in the spring,it may need someones foot on the arm to open the spring a bit more! You may need to release the handbrake cable from its clip on the suspension arm. Once its insid ethe spring manouvre the stop into position. eddie |

Title: Re: Rear Bump stop Post by Chad66 on Aug 11th, 2005, 9:03am I think this must depend on who does the MOT!! Both my stops have perished and have been that way for the last 3 years. Never had any problems passing MOT and thats with 3 different testing stations. That's why I've never bothered replacing them. |

Title: Re: Rear Bump stop Post by martin_rowe on Aug 11th, 2005, 9:23am no actual fail criteria for bump stop as long as there is one there & its secure. |

Title: Re: Rear Bump stop Post by mr._floppy on Aug 11th, 2005, 9:26am It doesn't help that rain water accumulates in the coil spring anchor indentation in the bottom swing arm long term thus rotting the plastic bumps. The MOT's next week and I'm on shift work so no time to fix it, I'll take the chance they don't notice it ;) ;) |
