Post by predator on Sep 15th, 2005, 10:48am
Many thanks to Kimi in helping with my 3 missing pots, I removed manifold and covers to discover a loose chain, my next move is to try and find out cause and possibly reset the timing and replace tensioner, passenger side of car, anybody done this and gat away with it? :'( I have just discovered the chain has snapped, anbody need any spares the car is a ultima with 96000 miles excellent bodywork and new mot, engine decidedly dead, must be worth £200 for spares?

Hi Predator....  You are very welcome, I am very sorry that the chain has snapped. Are you sure its not worth pulling the head off ( remove the head bolts first it helps ) to see what damage if any there is to the valves, you may be lucky... If you do,change the chain/guides/tensioners on the good side as well. It would be worth pricing up the parts too, then armed with the damage/parts prices and a long M.O.T. the car is worth more!!! Putting 6 Months tax on it stops you getting a fine and makes the car worth more... what have you got to loose...Kimi...

Wow hold on predator.
For less than £100 you can rebuild that side if it's not to bad. Take the head off & have a look.
Usally the 2 cam sprockets have damaged teeth + the top guide will be damaged. The crank sprocket is usally O.K. You should find a broken main guide & as long as you are able to do the work yourself the parts shouldn't cost more than £100 honest unless it has done some real damage.
I will tell you where to get the parts from. ;)

Sorry highlander for butting in :-X
