First things first, hi to all concerned. Great site, been browsing whilst waiting for my e-mail confirmation. Sorry to start on a downer, but I've just inherited my old mans '94 scorp 'worth and even though she's mint the poor old girl wont drop into top gear, and to make matters worse c/c only works intermittantly. Don't know if the two are connected. Would really appreciate any pointers. Thanks. :(

firstly wecome to the site....
secondly,lets ask the obvious first,is the overdrive switched off ?,is there a green OD light lit on the dashboard ?......

also,when you say c/c take it you mean cruise control and not climate control

hi there

how's your speedo? nice and steady? if not, then the VSS could be playing up.

btw, what sort of speed/rpm are we talking about? 3000rpm is about 80mph on the speedo (2.3 engine).

Thanks guys for quick reply. Firstly to craig, soz my fault, I meant cruise control. As my old bus is pre face-lift there's no overdrive. Dont know if the two problems are linked as they cropped up at the same time. Also HI to Scorpio man, Speedo needle mostly steady bar a bit of a wobble from standstill to 30mph, then she is laying down a bit of grunt, rock steady after that. Speed/rpm ratio is about 80mph/4000 rpm but obviously that's not in top gear as it were,(yet to have that pleasure).

Is this a 94 Frog eyed one or the older granada ?

Hi snoopy. older Granada I'm afraid. Know it's not strictly what you guys are all about, but you seem to know your stuff. Great car, stonking engine, pain in the a*** problemm

OK with it being the older one like the 12v I have and NOT engaging 4th gear check the small vacum pipe under the ICV as I understand it has somethig to do with the gear changes!

had sam fault on my old scorpio it was spedsensor in gerbox that was broken. and it's controls both top gear and cruise control. and it's simple swap takes approx 20min
