Title: Hidden Alarm
Post by jetlag on Sep 19th, 2005, 8:44pm
A strange thing... I went to open my recently purchased Scorpio this afternoon and the alarm went off, the alarm that i didnt even know that was on the car, there are stickers on the window but since i got no alarm key or locking fob with the car i just presumed that it wasnt on. As soon as i closed the door again and locked the car the alarm stopped? Can anyone shed any light on this, was there a alarm as standard with the scorpio which i should know about?

Yes. The Scorpio have many nice things like the alarm. You can read all about it at : http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/specifications.htm

Yep, as far as i know all Scorpio's came standard with an alarm. Regardless of whether you have a keyfob or not the alarm should arm itself when you lock or double lock the car and un-arm itself when you unlock the car. If the drivers door key does NOT disable the alarm when you unlock try unlocking the passenger side door. Also, if the alarm is faulty but you are not bothered for it, simply disconnect the single connection to the alarm horn located behind the battery. Alternatively you can disable the alarm completely by pulling apart the multiplug connector to the bonnet pin switch located next to the bonnet catch.

Hope this helps

Hey Scorpioen I guess it must just be English Scorpio's that have them!? However, I know Ford Europe were keen to implement the technology SAFEGUARD which is basically PATS as we know it, across the entire Ford Europe range!

Jetlag, Your right. The alarm on your Scorpio (if the standard Ford alarm system) is a typical Perimeter alarm system consisting of triggers on every door, boot and the hood. Some Scorpio models came with ultrasonics inside the car which detect movement. If your car is equipped with ultrasonics you should see them above the front seats on the headliner. The ultrasonics are activated on deadlocking (turn key to unlock position then to lock position to activate deadlocking). If you have pets in the car, simply lock the car without the deadlocking (drivers side lock is clockwise to lock). This locks and arms the car without the ultrasonics.

If your alarm is faulty and does NOT arm and disarm like it should, it is probably one of the rotary switches at fault. The rotary switches surround the lock barrel inside the door and spin whenever the lock is turned. These are made of plastic and can wear out easily. Also be aware that a voltage drain (battery or alternator diodes) can trigger the alarm system. Even a tiny 10 milliamp draw can be enough to trigger the alarm system.

Alarm faults can be hard to trace. If you want to simply disable the alarm, do what I described in the above post and disconnect the bonnet pin switch multiplug. Your alarm will no longer work but your car will still be protected by the PATS system (Passive Anti Theft)

Hope this helps

My local ford managed to kill my scorp under the mot..

And i asked if it cold be the PATS that cutts the power and "forced" them to do a system check, and they phoned me up and told me that my scorp did not have any PATS...

That was confucing and amberasing....
And they did not have any explanation for it eather...

So i thought like i always thought when my car is missing something...,
"guess its only on the ultimas then".... :P

Good to see that its not just me that is up this late / early...  ::)

Do you have the small red light on the middle of the dashboard that keeps on blinking when your car is not started, does it go out when the engine is running, ...then you have pats, if your keys are "not pats enabled" there can be a slight chance that you have a chip glued on the steering lock modulator, so apparently you have no pats (always on).

PATS is standard on all scorps not just ulltimas.
