Post by dno on Sep 21st, 2005, 10:08am
hi all, just after some advice .  intending on doing full fluid change on my  `94 2.0 16v ultima estate i.e. oil+filter, auto fluid+filter and coolant just wandered if anyone can clarify exactly what should be used as i went to fmd and nearly caused an argument between the staff, no one was definitive on exact spec!!

Hi dno,

First of all welcome to the site :D

You have an older car so I would not skimp on things like engine oil, plugs, antifreeze, etc..

For the Oil I recommend a Mobil or a Castrol product. My preference was the Castrol Magnatec 5w30 which clings to the engine and notably (on my 2.0 16v 115,000)made the engine run quieter and smoother.

For the Oil filter, I highly recommend you shop at Ford for this one. Motorcraft supply the filter in two variants, a short stubby looking filter which was designed to fit the transit and the Scorpio. The other is a long thin looking one. Both the Ford filters have an anti drain valve in them which prevents oil from draining from the top of the engine while stood. My suggestion would be the short stubby one as it gives you more room under the engine bay. While your at Ford get yourself the newly Re-Designed sump plug. The Finis is 1 013 938, cost £3.36. It has an integrated non-stick rubber seal and an allen key hole instead of the socket bolt (Makes it so much easier to remove!)

Get yourself an air filter (Doesn’t have to be Ford, Could get a Fram) Some spark plugs (Bosch have always been my preference) but you could use Motorcraft, Champion etc.. A Fuel Filter (Motorcraft), A transmission Filter Kit (Normally the kit comes with the filter and the sump gasket) I think Ford sell the kits ??? Some good Ford spec transmission fluid, Some Motorcraft or equivalent antifreeze.

Other things you might want to do is to check the wiring going behind and then into the coil packs (under the plate on top of the engine) for cracks in the insulation. Repair as needed with tape or heat shrink etc.. Also you may want to clean the MAF. Instructions can be found at http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm

Hope this helps

Regards
