HI, i am going to look at a 2.0 16v scorpio next week, the guy selling it says the car will start but not rev ???

are there any common easy problems this could be ;D or is it likely to be serious :o

obvious i know, but if you havent seen it yet, is the throttle linkage okay?

my scorp has the same fault, but its only intermittent, and when it does it, i only have to restart the car, and all is ok.

Blocked exhaust as a result of the cat breaking up can cause problems like this.

As Russ says, the throttle linkage needs checking to make sure that the butterfly valve is opening fully with the movement on the accelerator pedal.
If the car runs all right but stalls when the pedal is pressed, then suspect the Throttle Position sensor (TPS).
Get someone OBD-equipped to go with you and get the diagnostics read. This should tell you where to look. ;)

Thanks guys - went to look at it tonight! bit of a dissapointment :( battery was so flat it wouldnt even start (seller told me it would start) :( and there were a few bits missing - trim, radio, multi changer, remote fob etc. and it would only attempt to start on the red key, plus he wouldnt budge on the price so i think i'll give it a miss!!! :)

Plus there was a distinct whiff of dodginess about the seller. We shall keep looking!

What you after a car for bits or to do up?

The 2.0L are not worth much even if good.

We're looking for 2 Scorpio's between me and Transit_Van_Man. I need a cheap motorway cruiser with all the gadgets and luxuries and he needs an engine for his Mk1 Transit project.

Ideally we need one car with mint bodywork and well looked after but perhaps gearbox gone to bring price down and another one with good gearbox and engine but that's about it.

hi wildashwood if your m8 with the mk1 tranny van nos how to wire the engine up in to a diffrant moter tell me cos im trying to do somthing simaler

Well you'll have to ask him because I'm a computer programmer and as such I am banned from knowing too much about cars ;)
