Does anyone know what the substance is that goes inbetween the two mirror glasses.

Thanks for the tips and help guys, I have got one from a "breaking" on ebay on the way, however, I would now like to try and track down a place that can supply me with TN (Twisted Nematic) Crystals. I would then like to experiment with my old one and see if they are refurbishable.

If anyone can help in my search for this I would be nmost grateful. Obviously it would need to be cost effective on the crystals but pulling the mirrors apart is a five minute job.
