Post by craig on Oct 8th, 2005, 1:45pm
right guy's,looking to put the new VNR in the car next week, dont invisage any problems apart from 1 thing, best place to site the gprs aerial ?,i know the screen in the scorpio can cause problems with reception but i was thinking about the left (passenger) side in the corner, pretty much opposite the sun sensor in the drivers corner,.....
sound ok ?.... ???

hi craig

my gps doesn't work if i channel the cable near the l/h/s. i think it picks up noise interference from the pcm.

not sure if this helps any :-/ i think barry has his on/near the rear speaker.

oops, i should make it clearer, that the one on the dash works ok craig, its to the RIGHT of the sun sensor, and so its away from the heated screen elements, always picking up a clear signal.

I also have some setup info for you regarding the vnr.

hidden menus

Go to the car and put the ignition on. Select nav on the unit but DO NOT press accept. Click up up right then press menu. A screen will say something about the diagnostics menu being activated. Click enter.

Press accept on the safe driving screen.

Go to the options menu and select the system diagnostics bit.

A screen saying that the menu is for service diagnostics only will be displayed. Press enter.

cheers donnie.....
unit is going out to me today via special delivery so will be with me tomorrow, cant see me doing it this week at the moment though.. :'(.....
looking forward to doing it as if i remember is a straight swap over, and i'm going to stick with the changer thats in the car for the time being, hoping to fit the gprs aerial to the rear parcel shelf if at all possible, but thanks for the info on the front screen fitting as well.......
and as for the hidden menus, reading through the user manual, guess it's going to take a while to figure out the user operations let alone the hidden ones.. :o......
thanks again......

the hidden menus are for sat nav setup.

mainly they display how many satellites you are recieving etc, very useful for placing the antenna etc
also you will have to change the bracket that slots the unit onto the rail upside down, as its the opposite way around on the scorpio... i just did away with mine completely, but probably better if its fitted, as the vnr unit is a lot heavier than the normal radio will be obvious when you take it out!. everything else is reasonably straightforward... im on the end of a message if you get stuck!

well it's here.... :) :) :)

baz,if you have that cd changer in your car,i'm impressed,i like it,dont know what to do though, put it in my car,or keep it as a spare for the time being..?????...

do have 1 small problem with the aerial though, looks like (as it came out of a 2003 mondeo),the radio reception aerial is combined with the gps aerial as it's the only aerial there and it has all the connections on that for radio reception as well as the gprs plugs....grrrrrr,dont fancy changing that lot,so 1 of those is next on the list (still got that link you sent me baz regarding the german seller who has them,so thanks for that).......
just got to feel like fitting it now.. ??? ???......
