Title: High tickover
Post by Scorpius on Oct 8th, 2005, 3:23pm
Hello all.

I joined this group some time ago after i purchased my first Scorpio. (had lots of granada's in the past), but then forgot my login and never bothered to check in. Well, i have now found the login and here i am with my first major problem.
The car is a 97 (P) Scorpio Ultima 2.3 16v saloon. It has 261,000 miles on the clock (yes, really) and apart from being dotted with small rust patches, was/is very together and all working fine, when i got it.
It has since developed a blow on the exhaust and a stiff gear lever. The gear linkage has gone tight, probably due the the hot exhaust blow alongside it BUT that's not the main problem.
I decided to clean the MAF sensor. Mainly because the car was a bit hesitant to pull when cold, and this semed a good place to start. Unfortunately i sprayed the brake cleaner down the correct hole while the engine was running and so the MAF heater element was hot. Now the car ticks over at 2000 RPM. I paid a visit to a scrappy and they didn't have the correct MAF so on the off chance i tried the MAF from a 2.0 Mondeo. Different number. but looked the same. The tickover dropped within a minate of fitting it, but has now risen back to 2000 RPM again.
Have i just got a duff MAF and need to find the correct replacement, or is there another reason?
Will any other MAF fit the 2.3 apart from the correct Scorpio one?

Thanks

Ian
