Hi Lee,

I am sure I read somewhere that, not neccesarily with a Scorp, someone changed the alternator on their car which caused it to "run on" in the same way, only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery.
Maybe your mate has a fault with his alternator? Worth checking, after that I would look at timing.

Cheers  :)

Never come across this one but if when you disconnect the battery the engine dies it could be something to do with the alternater as the engine should still run as the alternater will supply the power as long as all the + leads are held together.
Does the rest of the car go dead when you take the keys out (no ignition lights etc)?

The solenoid should shut the fuel off & it would be impossible for a diesel to run with out fuel so check the volts to it ;)

I had a similar problem with a diesel Sierra a few years ago, same symptons would run on even after the battery was disconnected, only way to stop it was to stall the engine via the clutch.  Problem turned out to be that there was diesel in the oil/sump, the piston rings were broken which meant that the fuel was seeping in to the sump and contaminating the oil, so even though the fuel cut off solenoid kicked in the engine could run on for anything up to ten minutes or so until all the fuel in the oil was used up.

Firstly check your oil for diesel contamination, ie smell it and also get a prressure test done on the pistons.  If that doesn't solve it we'll have to look elsewhere.
